Artist's Comments

Acrylic on canvas.

In Europe I was impressed by Caravagio's use of light. I also need to master the female form (I have guys covered). So expect more of these.

I fell in love with this girl's figure and hence had to use it as a basis for a painting. I did this over the span of about a day, perhaps a little more.

The main theme is how fantasy is just a shadow of what we can see and experience as real. The figures body (reality) is much more warm and natural. I tried to make it come out at you and pleasing to the eye. In contrast to the warm coloring of reality the 'fantasy', embodied by the wings is done only in an outline and in a very faint blue. In essence, one could argue that this painting is a comment on how fiction is much less fullfilling compared to reality. (Notice how the beauty of the figure takes presidence over the lack of detail on the wings - which are usually very intricate and glorious in their own right, but not here, not in this context).

The scanned image does not do the work any justice. The original is much better. I've played with my scanner quite a bit and this is the best I can come up with. Oh well, I tried.

The figure is based off of the very sexy photo "Breathe" by
'glassyeyed' on DA, [link] She was nice enough to let me use her jaw dropping self for this piece, so stop by and look at her stuff.

Elan Vital by ~archetype-- is not the latest from this user, but it is one that exhibits an almost profound sense of color richness. The warmth from the figure is immediate, and one cannot tell if she reflects or radiates light and heat. (Suggested by *Jessica-Joy and Featured by `zeruch)

In a day? Hrm, pretty quick for a painting. Good job.

Don't ever think you're the only one, when times are tough.

this is gorgeous!

nice warm colors, almost comforting.
:iconarchetype--:
Thanks, I was going for a feeling of warmth and comfort or rather an over all positive connotation -- hence 'vital' (syn) life. Do you like any of my other stuff?
:iconglassyeyed:
Wow, you did a great job. The lighting is fantastic. I'm flattered :)

I'll pay you 20$ to check out my Gallery

When I first saw this in your gallery I thought it was a photo-manip. The fact that it is in fact a very lifelike painting is freakin' awesome! Keep up the good work.

I wish that God - if there is one - measured the ability of the heart and the brain and adjusted the tongue and voice pipes accordingly

I'm very impressed that you're able to get this smooth texture and strong sense of light with acrylic!
I definately would have assumed it was ps airbrushing. Well done!

HA HA! I am the acrylic master. I just need to get better at oils. Actually, 'Elan vital' has a very poor scan. I'm not sure, why, but the best of my scanner isn't near the quality of the work. I'm not boasting, I just hate the computer image.
:icondan-yell:
I just personally find acrylic very restrictive and hard to work with. So I'm amazed you can manage so well.
